Freeship Card Issuance:
All eligible students are entitled to take admission to institutions without pre-payment of tuition and hostel fees, according to the program rules. To facilitate this, a FREESHIP CARD will be issued by the State Government to eligible students. This card makes the student eligible to study without upfront fee payment, on the condition that once the scholarship amount is released to the student's account, the institution will be intimated to collect the same from the student.
The process for Freeship Card issuance involves several steps:
• Students must register for a Freeship Card on the respective scholarship portal well in advance of their anticipated admission date. This registration requires details like the Aadhaar number, the intended course (e.g., MBBS, B.Sc., Class 11), and an undertaking that institution fees will be paid within 7 working days of receiving the scholarship amount. The portals for Freeship Card registration remain open throughout the year.
• The verification of income, caste, and merit details should ideally be done automatically from online databases for immediate, paperless verification. Until such a system is fully implemented, applicants must scan and upload documents including a passport-size photograph, copies of academic certificates, a caste certificate duly signed by an authorized officer, and a valid income certificate issued by the competent authority.
• After registration, if a student is found eligible, States/UTs will complete the verification process within 30 days of the request and issue the Freeship Card through the IT portal, mentioning the applied course. This ensures eligible students are not denied admission due to fee payment delays. Students will be able to download the Freeship Card directly from the portal.
• The Freeship Card's validity for admission purposes is one year from its issue date.
• Should a student need to change their course before enrolling in an institution, they can do so by logging onto the IT portal, and a fresh Freeship Card will be automatically issued for eligible students.
• Continuing students will not need to re-register for the Freeship Card, as a card issued to them will remain valid for the entire duration of their course.
