IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions Open for International Students – Apply by March 30

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. Applications are for the academic year 2026-27.

Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Admission Requirements

Applicants need to provide a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. They must also submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. Referees will be asked to assess a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE

International examination scores are also accepted for some programs, such as:

  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

English language proficiency test scores are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Process

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline.
