IIT Delhi PhD & PG Admissions for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window is open for international students for the academic year 2026-27.

Admissions Timeline

Prospective students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website,international.iitd.ac.in. The deadline for submitting applications is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must demonstrate English proficiency. They need to submit a self-declaration of their English language skills.

Applicants must also provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to submit recommendation letters. The notification states referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English skills.

Academic Requirements

Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from national examinations. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.

International examination scores are also considered. Eligible tests include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

Selection Process

Final admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline.

English language proficiency test scores are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
