The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application window closes on March 30, 2026 .
Admissions Open for International Students
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply for PhD and PG courses for the academic year 2026-27. The application portal is available at international.iitd.ac.in. Applications must be submitted by 4 PM on March 30, 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
Individuals who are not Indian citizens can apply. This includes those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English language proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.
Required Scores and Tests
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. For PhD and PG programs, these can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE). International examination scores like Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
Proof of English language proficiency is mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. A statement of English proficiency is required with the application.
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The institute will assess candidates’ overall suitability during this stage.
