IIT Delhi is accepting applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are for the academic year 2026-27.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide a statement on their English proficiency. They also need to nominate two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English communication abilities.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International test scores are also accepted. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will admit students based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will receive invitations. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant discipline.
