IISc Bengaluru Adds 3 B.Tech Programs for 2026 Admissions

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru will launch three new B.Tech programs in the 2026-2027 academic year. Admissions for these programs will be processed through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2026. This aligns IISc undergraduate admissions with the process used by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). Candidates will select IISc programs during the JoSAA choice-filling period.

New B.Tech Programs Introduced

The new engineering undergraduate degrees are Aerospace Engineering, Mechanics and Computing, and Materials Science and Engineering. These programs will add to IISc’s existing B.Tech in Mathematics and Computing. The institute aims to develop ‘research-engineers’ through these new offerings.

Admissions Process Streamlined for 2026

IISc has standardized its B.Tech admissions. For the 2026-2027 academic session, all admissions will be managed by JoSAA. This eliminates the need for a separate application on the IISc portal. Applicants will list IISc programs alongside IIT options during JoSAA counseling.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

Admission to the new B.Tech programs is based solely on the JEE Advanced 2026 All India Rank . Applicants must have achieved at least a 75% aggregate or the top board percentile in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics in their Class 12 examinations. A 20% supernumerary quota is reserved for female candidates to encourage diversity in these research-intensive fields.

JEE Advanced 2026 Timeline

The JEE Advanced 2026 exam is scheduled for May 17, 2026 . Eligibility for JEE Advanced requires passing the JEE Main 2026 examination. The first JEE Main 2026 session concluded in January. The second JEE Main 2026 session will take place from April 2 to April 9, 2026.
