IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Requirements
Applications are open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. They also need to provide details for two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
Referees will evaluate candidates’ aptitude, field-specific knowledge, research potential, and English communication skills. The IIT Delhi notification stated, “The referees will be asked to comment on the candidate’s overall aptitude, proficiency in chosen field, potential for research and independent thinking and proficiency in oral and written English.”
Standardized test scores may be required for admission. For PhD and PG programs, applicants might need scores from tests like GATE, CSIR, UGC NET, or DST INSPIRE. International test scores such as GRE and GMAT are also considered. English proficiency test scores from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination are mandatory.
Selection Process
Admission decisions will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for interviews. These interviews will be conducted by a committee of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline. The institute aims to assess candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research.
