IIT Delhi is accepting applications for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Interested candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website,international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This assessment is part of the admission process.
Admission Requirements
IIT Delhi may require scores from national or international standardized tests for admission. These include tests like:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
English language proficiency test scores are also mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination. This requirement ensures candidates can communicate effectively in an academic setting.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
The interview aims to evaluate candidates’ suitability for advanced study and research at IIT Delhi. A strong academic background increases the likelihood of being selected for the interview stage.
