The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students for the 2026-27 academic year. Applications are being accepted until March 30, 2026 , with the deadline at 4 PM. Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply.
Admission Process and Requirements
Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. Applicants need to submit a statement or self-declaration of English proficiency. The application also requires the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.
These referees will assess candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This assessment is a key part of the selection process.
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may also require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the DST INSPIRE program. International students may also submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
In addition, candidates must provide scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline. The interview panel will evaluate candidates further before making a final selection.
