The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 , by 4 p.m. Eligible candidates can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. Candidates need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates on aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. The IIT Delhi notification stated this requirement.
Admission Requirements
Admission to PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific national or international examinations. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
English proficiency test scores are also necessary. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Candidates must submit scores from at least one of these tests.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant discipline. The selection committee will evaluate candidates during this interview phase.
