IIT Delhi has opened applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal atinternational.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Requirements
Applications are open to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency. This can be done through a self-declaration. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will submit recommendation letters.
The referees will comment on an applicant’s aptitude. They will also assess proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are key areas. Oral and written English proficiency will also be evaluated.
Academic Qualifications and Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require specific test scores. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other acceptable scores are from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) is also an option.
International examination scores are also considered. These include Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT). Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records receive interview invitations. An interview committee, composed of faculty members from the relevant discipline, will conduct these interviews.
