Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year.
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website: international.iitd.ac.in .
Application Process Details
Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. The referees will assess a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs may require scores from national and international standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
- Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
- Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
International students may also need to submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Admission Criteria
IIT Delhi will base admissions on a candidate’s interview performance. Students with strong academic records will be invited to an interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline. This committee will evaluate their suitability for the program.
