IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are being accepted for the academic year 2026-27. The application deadline is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Admissions Overview

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in .

Application Requirements

Applicants must provide a statement of English proficiency. Two referees will be required to submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills.

Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include:

  • For PhD and PG Programs: Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE.
  • International Exams: Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be considered.

Proof of English language proficiency from tests like TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination is also necessary.

Selection Process

Admission to IIT Delhi programs will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with a strong academic background will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
