The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for international students seeking admission to its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested candidates can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Applications are open to foreign nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through a self-declaration. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters.
The referees will evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills, according to the institute’s notification.
Admission Requirements
IIT Delhi may require scores from national-level entrance examinations for PhD and PG admissions. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), and DST INSPIRE.
International examinations such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) scores are also considered. Applicants must submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests, including TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs for international students is based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee in their chosen discipline. The committee will assess their suitability for the program.
