Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and postgraduate (PG) programs. The application portal closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m. Prospective students can apply online at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Reference Recommendations
Referees will be asked to evaluate a candidate’s aptitude, field-specific proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills, according to the official notification. The institute seeks detailed assessments from these individuals.
Admission Requirements
Candidates may need to submit scores from standardized tests. These include:
- Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
- Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
- University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
- DST INSPIRE
International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) may also be required. English proficiency test scores from TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination are also necessary.
Selection Process
Admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee. The committee will assess their suitability for the chosen discipline.
