The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs to international students. Applications are now being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year.
Application Details
The application window closes on March 30, 2026 , at 4 p.m. Interested foreign nationals can apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility extends to non-Indian nationals. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Candidates must submit a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will assess candidates’ aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills. This information is detailed in the official notification.
Admission Requirements
Submission of scores from national-level examinations may be required. These include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International examination scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also considered.
Applicants must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
