Foreign nationals are eligible to apply. This includes individuals holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards. Applicants must submit a statement confirming their English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who can submit recommendation letters.
Referees will be asked to evaluate candidates on their aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English language skills. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
Academic and Language Proficiency Scores
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from national or international standardized tests. These can include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. International applicants may submit scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) or Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
In addition to academic scores, candidates must demonstrate English language proficiency. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. This requirement ensures candidates can effectively participate in academic discourse.
Admission Process
IIT Delhi will base admissions on candidate performance during an interview. Students with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee. The committee will assess candidates’ suitability for their chosen discipline. The interview is a critical component of the selection process.
