IIT Delhi has opened admissions for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. International students can apply. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Applications are being accepted for the 2026-27 academic year.
Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Prospective students must apply through the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in .
Admission Process and Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees. These referees will be contacted to provide recommendation letters.
Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude. They will assess proficiency in the chosen field. Potential for research and independent thinking are also evaluated. English language skills will be reviewed.
Candidates may need to submit scores from specific entrance examinations. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other accepted tests are the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) exam and University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET). The DST INSPIRE program scores are also considered.
International examinations like the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Scores from English language proficiency tests are mandatory. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination.
Selection Criteria
Admission decisions will be based on interview performance. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited for an interview. The interview panel will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
