IIT Delhi is accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026 . Foreign nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible.
Applications are open for the academic year 2026-27. Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in. The portal closes at 4 p.m. on March 30, 2026.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must provide a self-declaration of English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters. These referees will comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills, according to the institute’s notification.
Depending on the program, candidates may need to submit scores from national or international standardized tests. These can include Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE for PhD and PG programs.
International test scores such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) are also accepted. Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination, among others.
Selection Process
Admission to IIT Delhi’s PhD and PG programs will be based on the candidate’s interview performance. Those with strong academic records will be invited for an interview with a faculty committee from the relevant discipline. The committee assesses candidates for their suitability for advanced study and research.
