IIT Delhi PhD, PG Admissions Open for International Students

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is now accepting applications from international students for its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Postgraduate (PG) programs. The application portal closes on March 30, 2026, at 4 PM IST .

Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. The application window is open for admissions for the academic years 2026-2027 .

Application Process

Interested candidates must apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions website at international.iitd.ac.in .

Applicants need to submit a statement or self-declaration confirming their English proficiency. They must also provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. The notification states referees will assess candidates on their overall aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking, and English communication skills.

Eligibility and Requirements

Admission requirements may include scores from standardized tests. These can include:

  • Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)
  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)
  • University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET)
  • DST INSPIRE
  • Graduate Records Examination (GRE)
  • Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)

Proficiency in English language must be demonstrated. Applicants may submit scores from tests such as TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or Cambridge English Examination.

Selection Criteria

IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from their chosen discipline.
