Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has opened applications for PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. Applications are for foreign national students for the 2026-27 academic year. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026, at 4 p.m.
Application Details
International students, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, can apply. The application portal is located at international.iitd.ac.in. Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide names of two referees for recommendation letters.
Referees will comment on a candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, and English language skills. This information is available on the official IIT Delhi website.
Admission Requirements
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs may require scores from specific entrance exams. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). Other acceptable scores are from the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) or University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET).
The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST INSPIRE) program is also considered. International exam scores are accepted. These include the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Candidates must also submit scores from English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
Selection Process
IIT Delhi will select candidates based on their interview performance. Students with strong academic records will receive interview invitations. The interview panel will comprise faculty members from the relevant disciplines.
