The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) is accepting applications for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs from international students. The application deadline is March 30, 2026 . Prospective students can apply online via the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Admission Details
The application window is open for the academic year 2026-27. Non-Indian nationals, including those with Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applications must be submitted by 4 PM on March 30, 2026.
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit a statement of English proficiency. They also need to provide the names of two referees who will submit recommendation letters. These referees will assess the candidate’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and English language abilities.
While not always mandatory, IIT Delhi may consider scores from national entrance exams like Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or DST INSPIRE. Scores from international tests such as Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT) can also be submitted.
Proficiency in English must also be demonstrated through scores from recognized tests. These include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, or the Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be accepted.
Selection Process
Admission to PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi for international students will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to face an interview panel. This committee will consist of faculty members from the relevant academic discipline.
