IIT Delhi is now accepting applications from international students for its PhD and postgraduate (PG) programs. The deadline to apply is March 30, 2026, at 4 PM . Prospective students can submit their applications through the official IIT Delhi international admissions portal at international.iitd.ac.in.
Eligibility and Requirements
Foreign nationals, including those holding Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) or Person of Indian Origin (PIO) cards, are eligible to apply. Applicants must provide a statement declaring their English proficiency. They also need to submit the names of two referees who will provide recommendation letters.
These referees will be contacted to comment on the applicant’s aptitude, field proficiency, research potential, independent thinking skills, and oral and written English abilities. This information is detailed in the official admission notification.
Admission Criteria
Eligibility for PhD and PG programs at IIT Delhi may also require scores from standardized tests. These include the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET), or the Department of Science and Technology (DST) Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) program.
International examination scores are also considered. These include scores from the Graduate Records Examination (GRE) and the Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).
Final admission will be based on performance in an interview. Candidates with strong academic records will be invited to interview with a faculty committee from the relevant academic discipline.
English Proficiency Tests
Applicants must also submit scores from recognized English language proficiency tests. Accepted tests include TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC, OPI, OPIC, and the Cambridge English Examination. Other language tests may also be considered.
