NEET PG Counselling Dates Delayed: Supreme Court Hearing on Nov 16

The Supreme Court on November 16 will hear a petition challenging reservations in the NEET PG 2021 counselling. The hearing was adjourned from today, delaying the counselling process for thousands of medical graduates.

Counselling on Hold

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) paused the NEET PG counselling on October 25 . This decision means the counselling cannot proceed until the Supreme Court rules on the reservation issue. The delay has caused significant concern among medical aspirants.

Reservation Dispute

The petition questions the validity of 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBC) and 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) . These reservations apply under the All India Quota (AIQ) for postgraduate medical seats. Candidates and student groups are actively discussing the matter online.

Student Concerns Surface

Medical aspirants have voiced their frustration on social media platforms. Hashtags like #reservationfreeneetpg and #alldoctorsareequal trended as students expressed disappointment. Many shared memes and comments highlighting the perceived impact of the delay on their careers.

One aspirant stated, “2020 wasted. 2021 wasted as delayed NEET PG and late counselling. Future seems blurred.” Another commented, “Our fate in hand of reservation? 64% reservation in NEET PG is a very sensitive case.” Students worry about lost academic years and blurred career prospects.

Concerns were also raised about the financial implications of the delay. A general category candidate mentioned, “I know candidates from reserved categories who can afford a private seat in counselling. I am general category and I can only afford a government college. Worked hard for NEET PG & secured a good rank for govt seat but it might all go to waste.”

Supreme Court’s Next Steps

The Supreme Court is expected to issue an order after the November 16 hearing. The NEET PG counselling is anticipated to start soon after the court’s decision. In a related matter, the Supreme Court has directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to declare NEET results 2021, stating it will examine specific candidate grievances later.
