UP Board Class 12 Students Can Improve 1 Subject Score in 2026

Uttar Pradesh Class 12 students preparing for the 2026 board exams will have the chance to improve their marks in one subject. The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) has approved a new provision allowing students to retake one exam.

Improvement Exam Introduced

The UPMSP proposed the change to the state government. Students who passed the exams but received lower scores can now apply for the improvement exam. This system was not previously available. The government granted formal approval. Applications will open after the UP Board results are announced, expected by the end of April.

Students can choose any single subject to improve their score. This aims to help those who may have underperformed in a specific area.

Background of the Change

UPMSP Secretary Bhagwati Singh confirmed the improvement system will launch after final government clearance. The board previously introduced compartment exams in 2020. This allowed students failing one subject to retake it. The compartment exam replaced an older rule requiring students to retake all five subjects even if they failed just one.

The new improvement exam is distinct from the compartment exam. It offers students who passed an opportunity to boost their overall marks. Detailed application procedures and deadlines will be released by the UPMSP following the result announcement.
