Teachers in Delhi government schools are asking the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to delay the mandatory on-screen marking (OSM) for Class 12 board exams. They want the system implemented from the 2027 session, not the upcoming 2026 evaluation cycle.
Concerns Over On-Screen Marking
The Delhi Government School Teachers’ Association (GSTA) submitted the request. It comes amid mixed reactions from educators and students nationwide. The association cited practical challenges with the new digital evaluation system.
GSTA stated that many teachers lack adequate, structured training for OSM. They emphasized that effective modernization requires proper preparation. Implementing a fully digital system without this risks assessment quality.
Digital Proficiency Issues
The association highlighted evolving digital skills in Delhi government schools. Many administrators rely on IT assistants for digital tasks. This suggests system-wide IT competency is not yet mature for immediate, mandatory digital evaluation.
GSTA believes full-scale digital evaluation could impact assessment consistency. They noted a lack of broad mock practice sessions. Teachers also need more orientation on handling the digital interface and technical procedures.
Pilot Project Suggested
The teachers’ group proposed making on-screen marking a pilot project. They suggested it should be conducted on a limited scale this session. This would allow for a phased approach to implementation.
GSTA also recommended that only newly appointed teachers with prior online exam experience should voluntarily participate in digital evaluation this year. This would involve teachers who are more familiar with digital platforms.
The CBSE plans to implement OSM for Class 12 answer scripts starting in 2026 . Class 10 exams will continue with offline marking.
