Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU) will accept Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG scores for B.Tech admissions starting the 2026 academic year. JEE Main Paper 1 remains the primary admission route. CUET UG scores will serve as a secondary option for filling remaining seats in engineering programs at affiliated government and private institutions.
IP University’s Admission Process for B.Tech 2026
IP University has implemented a multi-tiered admission strategy. JEE Main Paper 1 holds the first preference for B.Tech seats. Students who do not secure desired ranks in JEE Main but perform well on CUET UG can still seek admission through this secondary pathway. This move aligns IP University with a national trend of using CUET for undergraduate admissions, managed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
The university already uses CUET for over 36 other undergraduate programs. However, it maintains a priority system that favors national-level entrance exams or its own Common Entrance Tests (CET). The deadline for CUET UG 2026 applications has been extended to February 26, 2026 . University officials urge prospective students to complete their CUET registration before this deadline.
This dual-admission approach aims to maximize seat occupancy and reduce pressure on students facing a single entrance exam. It provides a more flexible and accessible route for engineering aspirants in Delhi.
Eligibility and Registration Steps
To be eligible for B.Tech programs, students must have passed Class 12 with at least 55% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM). English must be a core or elective subject. For CUET UG registration, students must select the required domain subjects: Physics (322), Chemistry (306), and Mathematics (319).
Students must register on the official NTA website (cuet.nta.nic.in) before the extended deadline of February 26, 2026 . Following CUET registration, a separate registration is required for IP University’s Centralized Online Counselling. During this process, students must select the ‘B.Tech (Code 131)’ program.
Admissions are prioritized based on JEE Main Paper 1 scores. CUET UG merit is considered only after all eligible JEE Main candidates have been allocated seats. Accepted candidates must upload their CUET scorecard to the IPU portal after results are announced. Seat allocation will depend on category, preferred colleges, and CUET domain scores.
