Delhi Govt Digital School Profiling Launched

The Delhi government has launched a citywide digital profiling project for its schools. This initiative aims to create a data-driven system for assessing school infrastructure and safety. The program began on Monday and will cover 1,086 government schools across Delhi.

Digital Documentation Underway

Trained teams are conducting detailed on-ground assessments. They are digitally documenting assets at classroom and building levels. This includes checking cleanliness, drinking water, security, furniture, and digital infrastructure. Kitchens and laboratories are also part of the survey.

Every room will be digitized using 360-degree imaging. This creates a virtual walkthrough of each school campus. This digital record will support informed decision-making about school facilities.

Structural Safety Emphasis

Structural safety is a key focus of the profiling. Specialized teams will conduct visual inspections. Non-destructive tests like ultrasonic pulse and rebound hammer tests are included. Buildings will be classified for retention, repair, retrofitting, or demolition based on scientific assessments. This ensures student and staff safety.

Drone-based surveys and high-resolution images will aid in planning future works. GIS-based visualization will help with budgeting and monitoring. The collected data will upload to a secure web-based application. This application will offer automated error detection and real-time monitoring.

Benchmarking and Expert Review

The project aims to benchmark school infrastructure against standards set by bodies like the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The National Disaster Management Authority’s standards will also be considered.

Buildings identified as structurally weak or needing major repairs will have their assessment reports reviewed. Reputed technical institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and National Institutes of Technology (NITs), will vet these reports. Recommendations may include waterproofing, retrofitting, or demolition.

Comprehensive Digital Inventory

The initiative seeks to create a comprehensive digital inventory of government school infrastructure. This effort is designed to strengthen policy decisions. It aims to ensure safer and more resilient learning spaces for students. The project covers 1,086 schools operating from 799 building premises. The data will help identify gaps and prioritize improvements systematically.
