THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: 175 Kerala teachers will keep their jobs following an extension of the student Unique Identification (UID) deadline. Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced the decision Saturday. The move impacts teachers in government and aided schools across the state. It is directly linked to staff fixation for the 2025-26 academic year.
UID Deadline Extension Secures Teacher Posts
The government previously set a July 14 deadline. This applied to documents for students lacking UID details on the June 10, 2025, sixth working day count. The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) conducted a special verification. This took place from February 13 to February 17. KITE reviewed 1,052 students from 213 schools. These students were initially excluded due to missing UIDs.
During the verification, 912 students provided valid documents. These students received UID approval. Another 140 applications were rejected. They lacked sufficient records. This update in student numbers directly affects teacher positions.
Impact on Schools and Staff
Minister Sivankutty stated that approximately 175 teachers faced potential job loss. This was due to projected drops in student numbers. Their positions are now restored. Additionally, the government expects to create about 10 new teaching posts. The revised student figures also mean 15 schools will be removed from the ‘uneconomic’ category.
Updated student data is now in the ‘Sampoorna’ and ‘Samanwaya’ software systems. School authorities can contact their respective educational offices for next steps. The minister made the announcement in a statement.
