Calculating Scores

To calculate scores, candidates should tally correct answers and apply the marking scheme. Only MCQs incur negative marking. NAT questions have no negative marking.

The calculation for MCQs is as follows:

  • 1-mark MCQs: (1 x correct attempts) – (1/3 x wrong attempts)
  • 2-mark MCQs: (2 x correct attempts) – (2/3 x wrong attempts)

The GATE exam is a prerequisite for admission to Master of Technology (MTech) and Doctor of Philosophy (Phd) programs at various IITs, NITs, and other institutions. GATE scores are valid for three years and can also be used for recruitment by Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
