IIT Guwahati is conducting the remaining Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026) papers on February 14 and 15. This exam serves as an entry point for Master of Technology (M.Tech) programs at top engineering institutes, including Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and also for some job recruitment processes.
Remaining GATE 2026 Exam Schedule
The examination will be held across the country in two sessions daily: a morning shift and an afternoon shift. A total of 30 papers are being administered in a computer-based format. This includes a new Energy Science paper under Engineering Sciences (XE).
Exam Day Guidelines
Candidates must arrive at their assigned centers before the scheduled start time. Entry gates will open 40 minutes prior to the exam. Candidates can access the GATE login and read instructions 20 minutes before the test begins. Late arrivals will not be permitted entry. No candidate will be allowed to leave the examination hall before the 3-hour duration concludes.
- Report to the center 60-90 minutes before the exam.
- Carry mandatory original documents only. Digital copies are not accepted.
- Do not bring prohibited items like mobile phones, smartwatches, or personal calculators.
- Use only the provided on-screen calculator.
- Adhere to the dress code: wear simple clothing and avoid metallic accessories.
- Remain in the exam hall for the full three hours.

Candidates must bring the following to the examination center:
- Printed copy of the GATE 2026 admit card.
- A valid government-issued photo ID (Aadhaar card, PAN card, driving license, or passport).
- Disability certificate, if applicable.

Question Paper Format
Candidates can opt for one or two papers. Each paper features three question types:
- Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs): Single correct answer with negative marking for incorrect responses.
- Multiple Selection Questions (MSQs): One or more correct answers; no negative marking.
- Numerical Answer Type (NAT): Requires a numeric answer entered via an on-screen calculator; no negative marking.
IIT Guwahati is expected to release the provisional answer key in the last week of February.
