Eight people are dead following a school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. The victims include the shooter, who died from a suspected self-inflicted injury. Canadian police confirmed the fatalities on Tuesday.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating the possibility of a second suspect. Authorities have asked residents of Tumbler Ridge, a town of approximately 2,400 people, to remain indoors. Additional police resources are being deployed to the area.

The Peace River South School District reported that both Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and Tumbler Ridge Elementary School were placed under lockdown. This secure-hold procedure was initiated on Tuesday.
Larry Neufeld, MLA for Peace River South, stated that significant resources, including RCMP and ambulance services, have been dispatched. He did not release further details, citing concerns for operational safety. He urged community members to stay home.
“Please, please go back to your homes and shelter in place,” Neufeld told reporters. He asked residents to allow police to secure the community.

Tumbler Ridge is located over 1,000 kilometers north of Vancouver. It is near the Alberta border. Tumbler Ridge Secondary School serves students in Grades 7 through 12. The school has an enrollment of 175 students.
