KV Students Assessed Via TARA App; Career Tool Sees 1.46 Lakh Users

More than 7 lakh students in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) have been evaluated for foundational reading skills using the Education Ministry’s AI-powered TARA app. Separately, the ‘My Career Advisor’ career guidance tool has registered over 1.46 lakh students since its launch in July 2025. The government shared this data in Parliament on Monday.

The TARA app, designed for assessing Oral Reading Fluency (ORF), was initially implemented in KVs. A total of 704,210 KV students across grades 3 to 8 have undergone assessment via the app. TARA analyzes audio signals to measure word decoding accuracy, reading pace, and expression.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) partnered with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay to develop TARA. The app supports assessments in both Hindi and English. In the financial year 2025-26, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) allocated ₹2,44,704 plus 18% GST for conducting and analyzing these assessments.

Of the 1.46 lakh registered students, 97,644 have completed ‘passion tagging.’ This feature matches student interests with available job profiles. Punjab and Chandigarh show the highest student enrollment and passion tagging completion.
