End of Automatic Promotion for Classes 5 and 8

RBSE has eliminated the automatic promotion system for Classes 5 and 8. Students must now achieve minimum passing marks to advance to the next grade. Failure to meet the passing criteria will result in the student not being promoted.

Objective of Policy Change

The removal of automatic promotion intends to improve learning outcomes and reduce school dropout rates. The board stated that the previous system diminished student seriousness towards studies, causing difficulties in higher classes.

Retake Opportunity and Support

Students who do not obtain the minimum marks will have an opportunity to retake the exam within 45 days. Special remedial teaching will be provided to assist these students. The department expects this new system to increase accountability for students, teachers, and parents, leading to better academic monitoring and improved student performance.
