74 Andhra Pradesh Students Sick After School Breakfast

ANDHRA PRADESH : Seventy-four students at the Devarapalli Government Tribal Welfare School fell ill after eating breakfast on Sunday. The students consumed idly and chutney. Police reported the incident in Maredumilli, Polavaram district.

A total of 255 students ate breakfast at the school. Many children later reported vomiting and stomach pain. Eighteen students were taken to the Maredumilli Primary Health Centre. The remaining students went to Rampachodavaram Area Hospital.

Officials confirmed that 74 students showed symptoms of illness. They were diagnosed with mild food poisoning. All students are stable. No one is in serious condition.

Probe Ordered by Chief Minister

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation. He spoke with senior officials on Sunday. He directed continuous monitoring of affected students. They are receiving treatment at Rampachodavaram Area Hospital.

The Chief Minister ordered the district collector to submit a report. This report will detail the incident. Officials are to take strict action against those responsible for negligence.

Food Samples Sent for Analysis

Food safety and district officials collected samples. These samples are from the breakfast served. They were sent for forensic analysis. The analysis will determine if the food was contaminated.

Police have registered a case. The exact cause of the illness will be known after laboratory reports are received. This was stated by the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sai Prashant.
