GATE 2026 Exam: Key Guidelines Released for Feb 7 Start

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 begins February 7. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is conducting the exam. It will continue on February 8, 14, and 15, 2026.

Exam Dates and Purpose

GATE 2026 is a national-level examination. It tests undergraduate knowledge. Subjects include engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, and humanities. The exam assesses a candidate’s aptitude in these fields.

Key Guidelines for Candidates

Admit Card and Identification

Candidates must bring a printed copy of their GATE 2026 Admit Card . This is required for entry. Ensure the photograph and details are clear.

A valid original photo identification proof is also necessary. Accepted IDs include Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID, passport, or driving license. The name on the ID must match the admit card.

Arrival and Entry Procedures

Arrive at the examination centre 90 minutes before the scheduled reporting time. This allows time for security and biometric checks. Latecomers will not be permitted entry.

Candidates cannot log in 30 minutes before the exam starts. Adhere to this rule strictly.

Permitted and Prohibited Items

Bring only essential items. This typically includes a pen, pencil, and a simple calculator if permitted for your paper. Check specific instructions for calculator allowance.

Prohibited items are forbidden. These include mobile phones, electronic devices, watches, books, notes, and unauthorized calculators. Bringing prohibited items can lead to disqualification.

Dress Code and Biometrics

Follow the specified dress code. Avoid clothing with metal buttons, zippers, or metallic embellishments. Simple attire is recommended.

Biometric verification will occur at the centre. This involves fingerprint and photograph capture. Cooperate fully with the process.

Exam Conduct and Rules

Listen to instructions from invigilators. Read on-screen instructions carefully before starting. Ask invigilators about any doubts before the exam begins.

Rough work is permitted only on the provided scribble pad. Do not write on the admit card or any other document. Scribble pads will be collected after the exam.

No breaks are allowed during the GATE exam. Plan accordingly.

Disciplinary Measures

Malpractice, cheating, or disruptive behavior will result in strict disciplinary action. This can include disqualification from the current exam and future GATE examinations.
