The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) has flagged a significant number of vacant faculty positions at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore. Data obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) request reveals a stark imbalance in faculty representation across different categories.
IIM Indore Faculty Vacancies Highlighted
The RTI, filed by AIOBCSA president Kiran Kumar Gowd, shows that out of 150 sanctioned faculty posts at IIM Indore, only 109 positions are currently filled. This leaves 41 faculty positions vacant.
The current faculty breakdown shows a concentration of general category members. A total of 106 faculty members belong to the general category, holding positions as professors, associate professors, and assistant professors. In contrast, only two faculty members are from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category, and one is from the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. Both the OBC and EWS faculty members are appointed as assistant professors.
Crucially, the data indicates no faculty members from the Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), or Persons with Disabilities (PwD) categories have been appointed. The remaining 41 vacant positions are for all faculty ranks.
AIOBCSA described the situation as “alarming” in a statement on their official X account, stating, “This is not at all acceptable! Numbers from IIM-Indore are alarming!” The organization has consistently used RTI applications since 2018 to monitor the inclusion of marginalized communities in educational institutions.
Comparison with IIM Tiruchirappalli
This concern follows similar findings at IIM Tiruchirappalli. Previous data shared by AIOBCSA indicated high vacancy rates for reserved categories at that institute as well. At IIM Tiruchirappalli, 83.33% of OBC positions, 86.66% of SC positions, and 100% of ST positions were reportedly vacant. All general category faculty positions at IIM Tiruchirappalli were filled.
Current Recruitment Drive
IIM Indore has recently opened applications for faculty positions. The recruitment drive aims to fill positions across various departments including Communications Marketing, Economics, Operations Management, Finance and Accounting, Organizational Behaviour & HRM, and Humanities and Social Sciences. Applications are invited for the roles of professors, associate professors, and assistant professors.
The institute is specifically seeking eligible candidates for OBC, SC, ST, EWS, and PwD categories. The application deadline for these positions is February 28 .
