Kerala Class 10 Syllabus Reduced by 25% from 2027

Kerala will reduce the Class 10 syllabus by 25% starting in the 2027 academic year. Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced the decision on Saturday. The curriculum committee has approved the syllabus cut. This change aims to lighten the academic load for students. Many students have reported feeling overwhelmed by current coursework.

Syllabus Reduction Details

The reduction will apply to Class 10 textbooks. The content of the books will not change. Instead, the quantity of material covered will decrease. This measure is a direct response to student feedback. The government considers the academic pressure on students.

Context of the Announcement

Minister Sivankutty made the announcement in Kollam. He was speaking at an event to hand over a house. The house was built for the family of Mithun. Mithun was a student who died last year. He died after an electrical accident near Thevalakkara Boys High School.

‘Mithun Bhavanam’ Project

The house, named ‘Mithun Bhavanam’, fulfills Mithun’s dream. He had drawn a design for his family’s home. Kerala State Bharat Scouts and Guides initiated the project. They built the 1,000-square-foot house in six months. The construction cost was approximately ₹20 lakh. No money was collected from students for this project.

Minister Sivankutty praised the Scouts and Guides. He called their work a model humanitarian effort. The house stands as a tribute to Mithun’s memory. It also highlights the community’s responsibility to children’s dreams.
