NEET Aspirant Death: Prashant Kishor Demands Re-investigation

PATNA – Prashant Kishor on Friday demanded a re-investigation into the death of an 18-year-old NEET aspirant in Patna. The Jan Suraaj Party founder met the victim’s family. Kishor questioned the police probe, which first declared the death a suicide.

Kishor told reporters police initially rushed to declare the case a suicide. Police now state sexual assault cannot be ruled out. He demanded a re-investigation for family justice. Kishor also sought an investigation into police officers who concluded the case a suicide.

Victim and Initial Events

An 18-year-old student, preparing for the NEET medical entrance exam, was found unconscious in her Patna hostel room in Chitragupt Nagar earlier this month. She died on January 11 at a private hospital after days in a coma.

Her family alleged sexual assault. They accused authorities of a cover-up attempt. Her death led to major protests in Patna. Police arrested the girls’ hostel owner after protests.

Conflicting Reports and Allegations

The post-mortem report attributed death to consuming many sleeping pills. It also noted she suffered from typhoid. This report went viral on social media, escalating protests.

Kishor stated the victim’s family claimed an investigating officer asked them to “strike a deal” and “let go of the matter.” Kishor pledged to help the family meet senior officers. He aims to ensure culprits face justice.

Police Response

Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma confirmed the investigation widened. Sharma acknowledged “certain contradictions” between the post-mortem report and earlier medical reports. Authorities referred all documents to Patna-AIIMS for expert opinion. The SSP stated the investigation relies on the latest post-mortem report. He added all involved individuals will face arrest soon.
