NEET PG 2025: MCC Releases Round 3 Seat Matrix, Adds 292 Seats

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released the seat matrix for NEET PG 2025 Round 3 counselling. This updated information is now available on the official website, mcc.nic.in. The new matrix confirms the addition of 292 Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) postgraduate medical seats.

The released matrix details seat availability following the previous counselling rounds. It lists 10,101 clear vacancies across MD, MS, and Diploma of National Board (DNB) programs. An additional 18,076 virtual vacancies have also been included. These virtual vacancies result from candidates upgrading to higher preference seats or other movements during counselling.

The newly incorporated seats and updated vacancy figures come directly from participating medical colleges and institutions. The clear vacancies represent seats that remained unfilled after NEET PG 2025 Round 2. The significant number of available seats offers further opportunities for eligible candidates.

Eligible candidates must act quickly to participate in NEET PG 2025 Round 3. The choice filling window is currently open through the official MCC website. Candidates can register, make payments, and fill their choices until January 26 . This deadline is firm for all applicants.

Following the choice filling period, the MCC will process seat allotments. This processing phase is scheduled for January 27 and January 28 . The final seat allotment results for Round 3 will then be declared on January 29 . Candidates must check the MCC website for their results on this date.

Successful candidates who are allotted seats in this round have a specific window to report to their assigned medical institutes. The reporting period runs from January 30 to February 6 . Adherence to these dates is mandatory for securing the allotted seat.

Supreme Court Reviews NEET PG Cut-Off

The release of the Round 3 seat matrix occurs amid ongoing legal scrutiny of the NEET PG 2025 cut-off. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed with the Supreme Court. This petition challenges the government’s decision to reduce the qualifying cut-off for the examination.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare previously approved a revised cut-off for NEET PG 2025. This revision lowered the qualifying percentile to zero. Consequently, candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) categories became eligible for counselling even with negative scores, in some cases as low as minus 40 marks.

The PIL argues that reducing the cut-off undermines the core purpose of NEET PG. The examination is intended to be a merit-based national assessment. The petition states that allowing candidates with such low scores compromises the quality standards for postgraduate medical admissions.

The government defended its decision to lower the cut-off. Officials stated the primary reason was to fill nearly 18,000 vacant MD and MS seats across the country. The high number of clear and virtual vacancies detailed in the Round 3 seat matrix supports the government’s claim regarding unfilled positions.

Candidates are advised to regularly check the MCC official website, mcc.nic.in, for the latest updates and counselling notices. Timely action is crucial for all those participating in the NEET PG 2025 admission process.
