DU Foundation Distributes 524 Laptops to Girl Students

The University of Delhi Foundation held its Samarpan Samaroh 2026 event on Thursday. During the ceremony, the Foundation distributed 524 laptops to girl students. These laptops, valued at a total of Rs 2.35 crore , were provided under Project Sashakt Beti . The distribution took place at the Convention Hall, located within the historic Vice Regal Lodge campus.

The program specifically targeted students facing financial hardship. Beneficiaries included orphaned students, ensuring support for those without family care. Students from single-parent families also received assistance. A crucial eligibility criterion mandated an annual household income below Rs 4 lakh for all recipient families.

Project Sashakt Beti Enters Second Phase

The event also marked a significant milestone: the launch of the second phase of Project Sashakt Beti. This expansion initiates a new collaboration with Bombay Suburban Electric Supply (BSES) . An official release confirmed this partnership, signifying an increased commitment to digital empowerment for young women. The ongoing project aims to broaden its reach and impact through this collaboration.

University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh delivered remarks, expressing deep gratitude to BSES for its substantial contribution. He articulated that this initiative reflects a broader societal responsibility towards education. Singh emphasized that investing in education stands as one of the most meaningful forms of nation-building. He strongly urged other public sector units and private companies to provide similar support to universities. This call seeks to bolster welfare and development projects nationwide.

Digital Access Aligns with NEP 2020 Goals

Vice-Chancellor Singh also connected the project to the national educational framework. He referenced the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) . Singh noted that the upcoming four-year undergraduate programme would significantly reshape India’s academic ecosystem. He called on faculty members to guide students with dedication through these transformative changes. The Vice-Chancellor highlighted NEP 2020’s explicit focus on enhancing digital access, positioning the laptop distribution as a direct contribution to this national goal.

Amal Sinha , Group CEO and Director of BSES, explained the company’s commitment. He stated that the decision to provide laptops directly addresses the evolving technological needs of contemporary education. Sinha further clarified that the initiative aims to strengthen students’ access to essential digital learning tools. He confirmed BSES plans to continue its association with the University of Delhi through future projects. This commitment underlines a sustained partnership for student development.

Anil Kumar , CEO of the University of Delhi Foundation, provided insight into the project’s foundational goals. He affirmed the initiative was specifically undertaken to empower young women. A key objective involves expanding their access to crucial digital education resources.
