IIT Roorkee MTech 2026: GATE Cut-offs, Admissions, Dates

IIT Roorkee’s MTech admission for 2026 anticipates Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) will again feature the highest Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) cut-offs. Previous year data shows MTech CSE closed at a 71.20896 normalized GATE score, marking it as the most competitive core engineering program.

The institute offers 57 postgraduate programs based on valid GATE scores. These scores are normalized to shortlist candidates for admission.

GATE Cut-off Trends

Last year’s GATE cut-off data highlights MTech CSE and allied courses consistently required the highest qualifying marks. Other engineering branches like Electrical Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering also recorded high cut-offs.

Specialized programs in data analytics, control systems, and communication technologies closed at higher scores. These were more competitive compared to traditional fields like Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering.

MTech Admission Categories

IIT Roorkee provides multiple pathways for MTech admission:

• GATE-Qualified Candidates: Applicants from General, Gen-EWS, and OBC-NCL categories need at least 60% marks or a 6.00 CGPA in their qualifying degree. SC, ST, and PwD category candidates require 55% marks or 5.50 CGPA.
• IIT Graduates: Direct admission without GATE scores is available for IIT graduates. Candidates must have a minimum CGPA of 8.00 on a 10-point scale. These admissions fill supernumerary seats.
• Golden Girl Scheme: This scheme offers supernumerary seats to top-performing female candidates. Eligible applicants are first-rank holders or gold medalists from IITs or institutions ranked within the top 50 in the latest NIRF rankings. Candidates appearing for final semester exams are ineligible.
