Assam Special TET 2026: Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, Hmar Teacher Recruitment

Assam will conduct a special Teacher Eligibility Test (TET 2026) to recruit teachers for Bodo, Garo, Manipuri, and Hmar language mediums. Applications for this exam begin on January 7 . Higher Education Minister Ranoj Pegu announced the special TET, targeting lower and upper primary level teaching positions.

This initiative addresses a critical shortage of teachers in these four regional language mediums. Candidates who qualify the TET will be considered for recruitment at elementary schools throughout the state. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) guidelines govern the recruitment process and required qualifications.

Only permanent residents of Assam are eligible to apply for the special TET. The examination consists of two papers: Paper 1 for lower primary classes (1 to 5) and Paper 2 for upper primary classes (6 to 8).

Eligibility Criteria for Assam Special TET 2026

Applicants must meet specific academic and professional qualifications. A 5% mark relaxation is provided for candidates belonging to reserved categories.

Category Required Qualifications
Permanent Residence Must hold permanent residency in Assam.
Lower Primary TET (Classes 1-5)
  • Senior Secondary with 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • OR Senior Secondary with 50% marks AND 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd).
  • OR Senior Secondary with 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
  • OR Graduation AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • OR Graduation AND 1-year B. Ed. (Special Education).
Upper Primary TET (Classes 6-8)
  • Graduation with 50% marks AND 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • OR Postgraduation with 55% marks AND 3-year integrated BEd-MEd.
  • OR Senior Secondary AND 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd).
  • OR Senior Secondary AND BA, BSc Ed, or BA Ed.

Reserved category candidates receive a 5% mark relaxation on minimum qualification percentages.

Exam Conduct and Application Details

The special Assam TET exam will be conducted across seven districts: Cachar, Kamrup Metro, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Kokrajhar, Sonitpur, and Kamrup.

The TET certificate issued to qualified candidates will remain valid for life from its date of issue.
