Jharkhand Schools Shut Jan 6-8 Due to Cold Wave | Dept Order

The Jharkhand School Education and Literacy Department has ordered all schools across the state to close. The closure is effective from January 6 to January 8 , impacting students from pre-nursery to Class 12. This decision addresses severe cold and dense fog conditions.

All government, government-aided, unaided, minority, and private schools must comply. Regular academic activities will not occur during this three-day period.

However, government school teachers and non-teaching staff must report to their institutions. They will perform assigned non-academic duties as required by the department.

Weather Conditions Prompt Closure

The decision follows a specific forecast from the Meteorological Centre in Ranchi. The center predicted cold wave and “cold day” conditions for many parts of Jharkhand over the next two days. This forecast prompted the statewide closure order.

Pre-Board Exams for 2026

For Jharkhand pre-board exams planned for 2026, school authorities hold the discretion to reschedule. They will make decisions after assessing the local weather situation following the closure period.

Parental Advisory Issued

Authorities have requested parents to keep children indoors during this intense cold spell. They urge families to take all necessary precautions to ensure children’s safety and well-being.

Previous Closures Noted

Prior to the statewide directive, district administrations in Ranchi and Jamshedpur had already ordered school closures. Those orders extended until January 6 , also due to prevailing cold wave conditions in those regions.
