Odisha CM Adds 151 Civil Service Posts to 2025 Exam

BHUBANESWAR – Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday directed the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) to add 151 posts to the state civil service examination for 2025. This decision follows widespread public resentment over the OPSC’s initial notification, which excluded several key administrative positions.

The Chief Minister’s intervention addresses concerns raised by job aspirants across the state. The OPSC had previously announced only 314 vacancies, which sparked significant criticism for omitting prominent roles in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) and Odisha Revenue Service (ORS).

Original Vacancy Notification

On December 31 , the OPSC issued a notification for the Odisha Civil Services Examination 2025. This notification listed 314 vacancies across seven services. It notably excluded posts in the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), Odisha Forest Service (OFS), and Odisha Revenue Service (ORS).

Among the 314 initial posts, 104 were reserved for women. The only Group A service included was the Odisha Police Service (OPS), with 12 vacancies. The remaining posts fell under Group B services.

Breakdown of Initial 314 Posts:

Service Name Group Number of Vacancies
Odisha Police Service (OPS) Group A 12
Odisha Taxation and Accounts Service Group B 176
Odisha Labour Service Group B 98
Odisha Skill Development and Employment Service Group B 10
Odisha Tourism Service Group B 8
Odisha Excise Service Group B 6
Odisha Cooperative Service Group B 4
Total 314

Chief Minister’s Intervention

Following public outcry, Chief Minister Majhi reviewed the vacancies. An official release from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed his directive to fill additional vacant posts. This intervention aims to address the widespread disappointment among job seekers.

The OPSC received the recommendation to include 151 more posts. These new additions cover services previously omitted or underrepresented in the initial notification. The CMO stated that this move will benefit many young individuals aspiring for these government roles.

Additional 151 Posts Recommended:

  • Odisha Administrative Service (OAS): 14 posts
  • Odisha Revenue Service (ORS): 113 posts
  • Odisha Transport Service (OTS): 16 posts
  • Odisha Welfare Service (OWS): 8 posts

The inclusion of these 151 posts increases the total number of vacancies available through the Odisha Civil Services Examination 2025. This revision directly addresses a major point of contention from the original notification.

Government’s Focus on Employment

Chief Minister Majhi emphasized the state government’s commitment to the employment sector. He stated that approximately 40,000 government posts have been filled across Odisha within the last 18 months. This highlights the administration’s ongoing efforts to create job opportunities.

Majhi also directed all state departments to promptly recommend remaining vacant government positions to the OPSC for recruitment. This directive aims to streamline the filling of all available public sector roles, ensuring consistent employment generation across various government services.
