The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) has released the 2026 application schedule for its major research grants and fellowship programs. Registration for the JC Bose Grant and Ramanujan Fellowship is currently open. Applications for other schemes will open throughout the year.

About ANRF

The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), established in 2023, functions as the apex body for scientific research in India. ANRF provides high-level strategic direction for the nation’s scientific advancement. It aligns its initiatives with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). The foundation aims to foster a robust research ecosystem by funding diverse projects and supporting researchers at various career stages.

ANRF Grant and Fellowship Details

JC Bose Grant

The JC Bose Grant application window opened on January 1 and closes February 10 . This grant, launched in February 2025, supports established senior Indian scientists and researchers. It aims to recognize and facilitate their ongoing excellence in scientific research. Eligible applicants must hold at least a professor-level position or equivalent at an Indian institution. Candidates require a proven track record of significant research contributions. The grant provides Rs 25 lakh annually for five years to support research activities. An additional Rs 1 lakh annual overhead goes to the implementing institution. Researchers can avail this grant until the age of 68, promoting sustained research careers.

National Postdoctoral Fellowship (N-PDF)

Applications for the ANRF-National Post Doctoral Fellowship (N-PDF) open from January 15 to February 17 . This fellowship supports early-career researchers transitioning from doctoral studies. It aims to develop independent research capabilities in young scientists. Eligibility requires completion of a PhD, MD, or MS degree. Degrees must be from recognized academic institutions, national laboratories, or other R&D institutions. The upper age limit for applicants is 35 years. A five-year age relaxation applies to candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), physically challenged individuals, and women candidates, promoting inclusivity in research.

Ramanujan Fellowship

The Ramanujan Fellowship remains open for applications throughout the year. Decisions are announced twice annually. This prestigious fellowship targets Indian and Indian-origin scientists and engineers currently working outside the country. Its goal is to attract and retain top talent, encouraging them to establish scientific research careers and leadership positions in India. Recipients receive a monthly stipend of Rs 1,35,000 for five years. An annual research grant of Rs 7 lakh is provided for essential research expenses. This grant covers consumables, travel, research personnel salaries, and other contingencies. An additional Rs 60,000 per year is allocated for institutional overhead charges, supporting research infrastructure.
