Bihar TRE-4: Over 80,000 Teacher Posts Announced, Requisition by Jan 20

Patna: Bihar Education Minister Sunil Kumar announced upcoming appointments for over 80,000 teaching positions through Teacher Recruitment Exam-4 (TRE-4). The Education Department will send the roster clearance and requisition for TRE-4 to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) between January 15 and 20 , marking the official start of the recruitment process.

Minister Kumar confirmed the state’s focus on accelerating TRE-4 appointments during a press conference in Patna. This new recruitment drive aims to strengthen the teaching workforce across government schools in Bihar, addressing long-standing vacancies.

Previous Recruitment Efforts and Challenges

Bihar has conducted three prior Teacher Recruitment Exams. TRE-1 resulted in the appointment of 170,000 teachers. TRE-2 led to the appointment of 70,000 teachers. These efforts significantly boosted teacher numbers in the state.

However, TRE-3, which targeted 87,774 vacancies, saw only a partial fulfillment of posts. This led to considerable protests and public dissatisfaction regarding the recruitment process. The non-fulfillment of all allocated positions under TRE-3 had sparked demonstrations across the state ahead of the Bihar assembly polls.

Exam Round Appointments/Vacancies Status
TRE-1 170,000 teachers Appointments completed
TRE-2 70,000 teachers Appointments completed
TRE-3 87,774 vacancies Partially filled; protests ensued
TRE-4 Over 80,000 posts Upcoming; requisition by January 20

Additional Educational Sector Recruitment

In addition to the TRE-4 teacher posts, the Education Department has also initiated recruitment for other critical roles. Requisitions have been sent to the BPSC for 935 Assistant Education Development Officers. These officers play a key role in regional educational administration.

Furthermore, the department seeks to recruit 7,279 teachers specifically for special schools. This recruitment aims to provide specialized education support and ensure inclusive learning environments for students with diverse needs.

Engineering Job Candidates Protest Bonus Marks

Separately, engineering job candidates staged a protest in Patna, raising concerns about recruitment fairness. The protest targeted a specific provision in government job examinations that awards bonus marks to contractual employees.

Protestors gathered outside a government building housing secretariat offices. They specifically highlighted the BPSC Assistant Engineer (AE) recruitment exam. In this exam, eligible contractual workers receive 133 bonus marks. This is out of a total 400-mark paper.

Policy on Bonus Marks for Contractual Workers

The provision allows contractual workers in Bihar to receive bonus marks for their experience in several competitive examinations for government jobs. Protestors claim this system creates an unequal playing field. They argue it denies fresh candidates an equitable opportunity to secure government positions.

One protestor stated that the bonus mark provision prevents new applicants from securing their due chance. Protestors urged the government to repeal what they termed this ‘black law’. They demanded a recruitment process based solely on merit and examination performance.

Next Steps for Applicants

Individuals interested in TRE-4 teaching positions should closely follow official updates from the Bihar Education Department and the BPSC. Key information, including application deadlines, detailed eligibility criteria, and examination schedules, will be released following the requisition submission. Aspirants for Assistant Education Development Officer and special school teacher roles should also monitor BPSC notifications.
