IIT Bombay Class of 2000 Pledges ₹50 Crore Legacy Fund

IIT Bombay’s Class of 2000 pledged Rs 50 crore towards a Legacy Project on December 28, 2025 . The pledge occurred during the annual Alumni Day event at the Victor Menezes Convention Centre. The Legacy Project will fund academic and research initiatives at the institute.

Alumni Day Event Overview

IIT Bombay hosted its annual Alumni Day 2025, gathering alumni, faculty, students, and institute leadership. Prof. Upendra Bhandarkar, Dean Alumni and Corporate Relations, welcomed attendees. IIT Bombay Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare spoke, highlighting alumni contributions.

Prof. Kedare stated alumni provide resources, expertise, and industry links to the community.

Awards and Recognition

The institute honored several alumni for their service:

  • Distinguished Service Award: Five alumni received this recognition.
  • Chapter Service Awards: Seven alumni received awards for contributions to IIT Bombay and its global chapters.

Fundraising and Support

The Class of 2000 , celebrating its Silver Jubilee, committed Rs 50 crore to the Legacy Project. This project directly supports academic and research programs. The event also launched the GO-IIT Bombay 2025–26 fundraising campaign. This campaign aims to increase alumni support for institute initiatives.

Prof. Kedare acknowledged donor contributions. He noted these funds established Centres of Excellence, Chair Professorships, improved campus infrastructure, and supported student development.
