The National Testing Agency (NTA) confirmed the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID is optional for JEE Main 2026 registration. The Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE Main) 2026 will occur from January 21 to 30, 2026 . Students can add their APAAR ID to the application form; it is not mandatory.
What is APAAR ID?
APAAR ID is a unique 12-digit number. It stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry. This ID tracks a student’s complete academic record. It integrates with DigiLocker and links to Aadhaar.
The ID stores mark sheets, degrees, and awards securely on a single platform. It also manages academic credit points through the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) platform. This system facilitates academic transfers and simplifies record verification.
Understanding the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)
The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a Ministry of Education (MoE) initiative. The University Grants Commission (UGC) regulates it. Digital India Corporation developed and maintains this platform. It securely stores, accumulates, transfers, and allows redemption of academic credits.
Recognized educational institutions award these credits. One credit typically equals one hour of theory or tutorial, or two hours of laboratory work, per week for a semester. Internship credits are one credit per week, up to six credits.
How APAAR ID Links to ABC
APAAR ID serves as a student’s unique digital identity across educational platforms. ABC uses this ID to track and manage academic credits. Students require an APAAR ID to access ABC services, including credit transfers and academic progression.
These systems are part of a unified digital public infrastructure for education. Along with platforms like DigiLocker, they offer a single verifiable source for academic records.
