IIM Amritsar MBA Admissions: CAT 2025 Gets 50% Weightage

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Amritsar announced its Master of Business Administration (MBA) admission policy for the 2026-28 academic session. The institute will assign 50% weightage to Common Admission Test (CAT) 2025 scores in its selection process.

The MBA admission process at IIM Amritsar involves two distinct stages. The first stage focuses on shortlisting candidates for a Personal Interview (PI). The second stage involves the final admission decision based on combined scores.

IIM Amritsar uses a composite score to evaluate candidates. This score considers multiple factors, including Class 10th and 12th board exam results, graduation marks, relevant work experience, gender diversity, academic diversity, and section-wise scores from the CAT exam.

Pre-PI Scores (Stage 1)

Stage 1 of the admission process determines candidate eligibility for the Personal Interview (PI). Candidates must meet pre-determined minimum percentile scores in each section and overall in CAT 2025 for shortlisting.

Only candidates who clear this initial shortlisting round proceed to further processing, which includes the Personal Interview.

Minimum CAT 2025 Percentile Requirements for PI Shortlisting:

Category Quantitative Aptitude (Percentile) Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (Percentile) Verbal & Reading Comprehension (Percentile) Total (Overall Percentile)
Section-1 Section-2 Section-3
General 80 75 80 90
EWS 80 75 77 90
Non Creamy Other Backward Classes (NC-OBC) 65 60 65 80
Scheduled Castes (SC) 55 50 52 55
Scheduled Tribes (ST) 40 35 37 40
Persons with Disabilities (PwD) 40 35 37 40

For initial shortlisting in Stage 1, percentage scores from Class 10 and 12 board exams undergo an adjustment. Each score is divided by the 90th percentile score obtained in the candidate’s respective board.

Pre-PI Score Weightage for All Parameters:

A ranking list is prepared based on these criteria. A predetermined number of candidates receive invitations for the Personal Interview based on their rank order.

Parameter Weightage
CAT scores 50%
Class 12th 10%
Class 10th 10%
Graduation 5%
Gender diversity 10%
Work experience 15%

Post-PI Scores (Stage 2)

The stage-2 selection process includes the Personal Interview (PI) round. The interview panel assesses candidates’ academic performance, the quality of their work experience, and other personal attributes during this round.

The post-PI score for each candidate is calculated based on their performance in the interview. For the final selection into the MBA program for the 2026-28 batch, IIM Amritsar combines pre-PI and post-PI scores.

The aggregate composite score for each candidate is calculated using the following formula:

  • Aggregate Score = 0.7 X Pre-PI Score + 0.3 X Post-PI Score

IIM Amritsar maintains a uniform selection process, parameters, and weights for all categories of applicants. The institute ensures sufficient candidates are shortlisted at each stage from every social category to fulfill reservation requirements applicable for that specific admissions cycle, according to the official IIM Amritsar website.
